It’s the most wonderful—and most stressful—time of the year. If you’ve ever tried to get a "perfect" holiday photo of a toddler, you know it’s basically a high-stakes sport. You need a tree that’s impressive enough to look good on the 'gram, but situated somewhere that a running two-year-old won't immediately cause a national security incident.
After many years of trial, error, and "bribing with goldfish crackers," here are my top 5 spots to get that iconic holiday shot in Jersey City, Hoboken, and across the river.
1. The Pedestrian Plaza Tree (Jersey City)
The Vibe: Neighborhood charm meets urban festive. Located right on Newark Ave, this tree is the heartbeat of Downtown JC.
The Mom Benefit: It’s on the Pedestrian Plaza, which means no cars. This is huge. You can let your toddler toddle toward the lights without that low-level panic of a nearby street.
Pro-Tip: Go at "Blue Hour" (just as the sun goes down) and then immediately duck into Lackawanna Coffee for a hot chocolate. The lighting is magical and the toddler can burn off energy on the plaza.

2. The Exchange Place Waterfront Tree (Jersey City)
The Vibe: Sleek, modern, and high-impact. This tree sits right by the Hyatt Regency and the Exchange Place PATH station, offering a literal front-row seat to the World Trade Center and the Manhattan skyline.
The Mom Benefit: This is arguably the most convenient tree for a "commuter photo." If you’re heading into the city or coming back home, it’s right there. The area is wide and paved, making it a dream for strollers. Plus, the lights reflect off the Hudson River, which adds a double layer of "sparkle" to your pictures.
Pro-Tip: This spot is amazing for night photography. Because the Manhattan skyline is so bright across the water, you don't need a professional flash to get a clear shot of your toddler’s face. Just stand them between the camera and the city lights, and let the "glow" do the work.

3. The Lotte New York Palace (Manhattan)
The Vibe: The "Gossip Girl" fantasy. If you want the absolute most classic, high-end NYC Christmas photo, this courtyard tree on Madison Ave is the one.
The Mom Benefit: Because it’s in a contained courtyard, it feels much safer and more private than the chaos of Rockefeller Center. It’s gated off from the street, so you don't have to worry about them darting into traffic.
Pro-Tip: This spot is popular. Aim for a weekday morning if you can swing it. The "grandeur" of the tree usually keeps toddlers mesmerized for at least 30 seconds—just enough time for a burst-mode photo session.

4. The Washington Market Park Tree (Tribeca)
The Vibe: The "In-the-Know" Local Mom spot. This is a beautiful community tree in one of the best parks in lower Manhattan.
The Mom Benefit: There is a world-class playground literally thirty feet away. Tell them if they take "one nice picture" by the tree, they can go on the swings. The park is gated, clean, and usually filled with other local families.
Pro-Tip: Take the Path to World Trade Center and walk up. It’s a stroller-friendly route and much less stressful than midtown.

5. Brookfield Place (Battery Park City)
The Vibe: Modern, warm, and indoor! Technically, it’s the "Luminaries" installation rather than one traditional tree, but they always have stunning greenery displays throughout the palm court.
The Mom Benefit: It’s inside. If it’s 30 degrees and raining, this is your savior. There are clean bathrooms (with actual changing tables!), plenty of space for a stroller, and the light display is interactive.
Pro-Tip: Check their schedule for "Reindeer Roundup" or other free kids' events. You can get the photo and a morning of entertainment in one go.

6. Rockefeller Center (Manhattan)
The Vibe: The ultimate, bucket-list, "Christmas in New York" experience. It is the most famous tree in the world for a reason—it is absolutely massive and the energy is electric.
The Mom Benefit: I’m going to be honest—this one is a "level 10" challenge with a toddler, but the payoff is iconic. The best way to do this is to enter from 5th Avenue via the Channel Gardens. The rows of light-up angels lead your eye straight to the tree, creating a perfect natural "frame" for your photo.
Pro-Tip: Go early. I mean early. If you can get there by 8:00 AM on a weekday, you’ll have room to breathe and space to park the stroller. If you wait until the evening, it’s a sea of people and your toddler will likely only be visible in a "shoulder ride" shot (which, to be fair, is also very cute).
