What is your sign-in/sign-out policy? How do they ensure only authorized people pick up your child?

What is the staff turnover rate? High turnover can be a red flag for burnout or poor management. Children thrive on stable attachments.
What are the teacher-to-child ratios? Each state has minimums, but the best centers often keep these numbers lower for more one-on-one time.
What is your discipline philosophy? Do they use "time-outs," redirection, or positive reinforcement? Make sure their approach aligns with how you parent at home.
3. The Daily Grind (Schedule & Logistics)
You need to know if their routine matches your child's needs and your work-life reality.
What does a typical day look like? Look for a healthy balance of structured play, outdoor time, and quiet rest.
How do you communicate with parents? Do they use an app with real-time photo updates, or a daily paper log?
Are meals and snacks provided? If so, ask to see a sample menu. If your child has allergies, ask exactly how those are managed in a group setting.
Red Flags to Watch For
While you're chatting, keep an eye out for these subtle signs:
The "Hush-Hush" Factor: If they won't let you see certain rooms or seem evasive about licensing.
Unhappy Staff: Do the teachers look engaged, or are they overwhelmed and staring at the clock?
Lack of Transparency: You should be able to drop in unannounced (once your child is enrolled). If they have a "no-drop-in" policy, proceed with caution.
Pro-Tip: Trust Your Gut
