Planning a birthday party for a lively crew of 30 – a mix of adults and energetic little ones – can feel like a feat of logistical gymnastics. But after a few successful (and delicious!) celebrations, I've got my go-to list of Jersey City catering heroes. These spots consistently deliver on flavor, variety, and most importantly, kid-friendly options that keep everyone smiling (and fed!).

Two Boots | 133 Newark Ave:

For a fun, quirky vibe and unique pizza combinations, Two Boots is a fantastic option. They have a great selection of specialty pies and reliable favorites.

Taqueria Downtown | 354 Grove St:

This is our absolute favorite for a taco bar. The setup is genius – fresh tortillas, perfectly seasoned meats (carnitas and pollo are always a hit!), and all the toppings. Kids love customizing their own tacos, and it means fewer complaints and more happy munching! It’s such a fun and interactive way to feed a crowd.

Cangiano's Marketplace | 225 Pavonia Ave:

If you want to elevate your party with top-notch Italian-American fare, Cangiano's is a must. Their fresh mozzarella platters are legendary, and their pasta dishes (simple marinara for the kids, please!) and cold cut heroes are always devoured. It feels gourmet but still incredibly approachable for families.

Alessio's Cafe | 99 Franklin St:

Another fantastic Italian option, Alessio's brings that cozy, authentic Italian cafe feel to your party. Their Roman-style pizzas are a standout, and their meatballs are always a huge hit with both kids and adults. They make catering so easy with their well-thought-out packages.

Mordi's Sandwich Shop | 320 Communipaw Ave:

When you need reliable, delicious, and easy-to-eat food, Mordi's comes through with flying colors. Assorted sandwich platters are perfect for a mixed group – adults can enjoy their gourmet options, while simpler turkey and cheese satisfy the younger crowd. It’s a great way to offer variety without overcomplicating things.

Gussy's Cafe | 292 Newark Ave:

For a more relaxed, home-style feel, Gussy's Cafe offers wonderful catering. Their breakfast and lunch items are always fresh and comforting. Think fruit platters, mini quiches, and simple sandwiches – perfect for a daytime celebration where you want wholesome, tasty food.

Orale Mexican Kitchen | 341 Grove St:

Orale Mexican Kitchen is fantastic. Their vibrant flavors and crowd-pleasing dishes, like their amazing guacamole and various mains, make for a lively spread that adults love, and they can easily adapt dishes for little ones.

Whole Foods Market | 135 Greene St

Sometimes you just need one place that can do it all—from the appetizers to the cake. Their catering comes in sturdy boxes now, which is great for transport, but if you want that "Pinterest-perfect" look, have a few of your own platters ready to swap the food onto once you get home!

Final Thoughts from One Mom to Another

No matter which caterer you choose, my biggest tip is to always factor in variety and simplicity. For kids, familiar flavors and easy-to-eat finger foods are key. For adults, a little bit of elevated flavor and fresh ingredients go a long way. And don't forget the drinks and a birthday cake!

With these amazing caterers, you can actually enjoy the party instead of stressing in the kitchen. Happy celebrating, mamas!
